1988 – Growing community

The number of students soon grew, and as the Quran recitations and Islamic classes that were provided continually rose, an Islamic Cultural Centre was officially established in 1988. An imam also came from Turkey to assist the young men in their good work, but the growing congregation proved increasingly challenging to manage. Hence, the United Islamic Cultural Centre of Australia (UICCA) set out to raise imams and muallimahs from the new generations of Islamic society. It is with this intention that two sisters voluntarily went to Turkey for a time to become muallimahs.
