1987 – Decades ago

Decades ago, the first Turkish immigrants moved to Melbourne to create a better life for their families. Recognising the importance of spiritual education, they wanted to maintain the beliefs and cultural heritage that they brought from their homes – so they rolled up their sleeves and took action. Gathering fellow believers like them, this band of brothers began to teach Muslim children the ways of Islam with what little knowledge they had, and in doing so laid the first foundations of United Islamic Cultural Centre of Australia.
